Terms of Service

1. Who can use Frugal

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required in your country) to use the app. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you should have a parent or guardian's permission.

2. What the app does — and doesn't

Frugal helps you look up grocery products, view nutrition information, find nearby stores and compare prices. It is an information tool. We do not sell products and are not a party to any purchase you make.

• Prices come from Google Shopping listings (retrieved through a third-party search provider), official retailer APIs where available, community contributors (Open Prices), or prices you enter. Listings may be for a slightly different size or variant, prices can be wrong or out of date, and in-store prices can differ from online listings. The price charged at checkout is the one that counts.
• We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any retailer or brand shown in the app. Store names and product names are trademarks of their respective owners and are used only to identify them.
• Store locations and opening hours come from OpenStreetMap and may be inaccurate.

3. Nutrition and allergen information — important

Nutrition facts, ingredients, allergens and scores come from Open Food Facts, a collaborative database that anyone can edit. They may be incomplete, outdated or wrong, and products change their recipes. This information is for general reference only and is not medical, dietary or allergy advice. If you have an allergy, intolerance or medical condition, always read the product's physical label and consult a qualified professional. Do not rely on the app to decide whether a product is safe for you.

4. Your content

Prices and list items you enter are stored on your device and belong to you. If you choose to contribute to Open Food Facts or Open Prices through their websites, their own terms apply and your contribution is published under their open licences.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to: misuse the app or our server (for example by scraping, overloading, or trying to bypass rate limits or security); reverse engineer the app except where the law allows; use the app for anything unlawful; or photograph people or sensitive documents with the Photo feature.

6. Third-party services and data

The app relies on third-party services and open data listed in Settings → Data sources & licences. Those services have their own terms, and their data remains subject to their licences (for example, the Open Database License for Open Food Facts, Open Prices and OpenStreetMap data). We aren't responsible for third-party services, and they may change or stop at any time.

7. Our intellectual property

The app's design, code and branding belong to Frugal. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, subject to these Terms and the rules of the store you downloaded it from.

8. Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't guarantee the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any price or product information is accurate.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Frugal will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of money, savings, data or goodwill, arising from your use of the app or reliance on any information in it. Our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the app in the past 12 months or CAD $50. The app is currently free.

10. Your consumer rights

Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you have under consumer protection laws that cannot be waived by contract, including in Quebec, the EU and the UK. Where the law doesn't allow a disclaimer or limitation, it applies only to the extent permitted.

11. Ending use

You can stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it. We may suspend access to our server features if they're being misused, or discontinue the app.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Manitoba, Canada and the applicable federal laws of Canada, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you're a consumer, you may also have the benefit of mandatory laws and courts of the place where you live.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. If a change is material, we'll ask you to review and accept the new Terms in the app before you continue using it.
